Get to know writer Annie Avery:

1) What is your very short story about?

140 characters on love, passion and mystery.

2) What motivated you to write this story and submit it to the festival?

Writing a Twitter short story seemed like a lot of fun! It is interesting to see how social media is influencing poetry and prose.

3) What movie have you seen the most in your life?

Many years ago there was a place called Blockbuster where one could rent VHS movies. I distinctly remember incurring a $65 late fee because I couldn’t bear to part with The Scarlet Letter starring Demi Moore and Gary Oldman.

4) How many scripts and stories have you written?

I have been working on a script for a little over a year now, it is my first. I also have a few other ideas in various stages of development.

5) What artists would you love to work with?

I love Conan O’Brien’s comedy and have always wondered what it would be like to write with him.

6) What is your passion in life?

In this order: God, my daughter, writing, exercise.

7) Any tips for other writers who want to write a 140 character short story?

It really is a great way to practice editing the chaff out of one’s story as the form is so small. Write it out longer, distill it down and don’t ignore the creative impulse!
