Test Your Talents

Until we step out and test the waters of our talents
feel the rush of the present rip through us,
we live only a little.
Watch for these sanctified moments;
They come—
catching a poem that is in flight
and writing it down;
or showing up to the page to get that chapter written.
Maybe it’s
slugging over to that audition
or sitting with a sick patient when you’ve got 20 others waiting to
see you.
When we spend our days with just the tried and true,
cling fast to our opinions
and race to the next on our to-do list,
the universe is squelched;
it can’t fit through the narrow choke of our minds.
Instead, step into eternity’s headlight
in love’s limelight.
The applause will come on the inner,
but will stay with you.
