TOMORROW by Olumayowa Fagbure

Thoughts of the future
Give me heart pains
Irregular hear beats
and shortened breaths

Sometimes I get dizzy
with the thought of tomorrow
This inevitable, fearful thing
At the forefront
That occurs every new day

The fear grips me
Tomorrow wraps its bony hands around my speeding heart
whispering clichés about
the past

Tomorrow seeps slowly into today
Like a vaccine in an injection
Piercing the darkness
with its finger nails
To reveal a rouge today

Anxiety flutters in my mind
At the sound of “soon”
And tomorrow grows closer and closer
Until it is today
And I begin to worry
About the new tomorrow
