1st Scene STAGE PLAY Reading of THE LEOPARD AND THE CALF. by Joe Pugh

Genre: Comedy, Drama

Jerry O’Malley died in Hospice, but now he’s trapped in a locked lobby room with a stopped clock and his worst nightmare- his childhood bully Doug Hansen, who probably died getting stabbed while out jogging. Turns out they can’t leave this room until they make peace with each other. Which will be hard to do, since these two people have a long and horrible history.

Get to know the writer:

 What is your play about?

It is about an honest and heartfelt (post-mortem) conversation between a high school bully and his victim many decades later.

What genres does your play fall under?

That’s a toughie – it is a short play, certainly. It should not take more than a half hour to act out. I would call it a relationship drama with a touch of comedy woven in.

Why should this play be made into a stage play?

This play is about real men grappling with real men’s issues. I have written it in the hopes that past and present victims as well as past and present bullies may learn something and experience some healing catharsis.

How would you describe this play in two words?

Healing encounter.

What movie have you seen the most times in your life?

Jesus of Nazareth

How long have you been working on this play?

It has been percolating in my head for several years. I probably started writing it about two years ago and completed it a year and a half later with help from WILDsound editing.

How many stories have you written?

About ten or so…mostly very short. Some of them are also about inner healing; a few have religious themes.

What is your favorite song? (Or, what song have you listened to the most times in your life?)

Avalon’s Testify to Love

What obstacles did you face to finish this play?

Trying to overcome my negative emotions when I worked to express the bully’s memories and teenage point of view.

Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

People mostly: my boyfriend, my kids and the members of my support group. Also the outdoors and my efforts to support environmental causes.
