Hey, y’all! Welcome to the first installment of my Devil’s Advocate series I’ll be doing on this site. This series is going to be my opportunity to share with you my unpopular opinions on things relating to writing. I don’t really know how regular these posts will be, but there will definitely be more in the future. For now, though, I hope you enjoy this one!
In all the writing research I’ve done on creating realistic characters, one of the trends I noticed was an aversion to villains who were pure evil. Pretty much everything I read discussed how this was a bad idea and would create weak villains. How this wouldn’t entice the reader (or viewer) at all. That the best villains have redeemable qualities and make you sympathize with them.
