The story takes place in the middle of the night, mostly on a dark road.
Before “the scene” we meet Ford driving in his car, looking for wounded animals. We also see Volvo, leaving his house and car business for the last time. He wants to commit suicide (or wants other people to kill him) Before he leaves, he puts an excessive amount of food, into his cats dish, and pats it on the head. He also puts keys in all the car ignitions. We also watch Jeep driving very fast.
Ford is a 60 year old man, who mourns over his deceased wife. He regrets, that he wasn´t able to accept the fact that she was sick and dying. To compensate, Volvo has dedicated his night vision to animals. Night after night he seeks out animals, that have been driven over, and left injured and bleeding on the road. He finishes what others could not complete.
One night he drives along in his car, and spots two figures in the middle of the road. Ford just manages to swerve round them. A man VOLVO is lying on the road, and a woman JEEP, is standing next to him. They are arguing.
Volvo is a depressed used car dealer. He´s lying in the middle of the road, hoping that someone will drive him over.
Volvo think Jeep is a lousy driver, because she didn´t hit him with her car. Jeep says, that she didn´t wanted to run him over, but actually Jeep is a dangerous motorist, who thinks she´s immortal. She does “hit and run” for a hobby
Volvo insists that Ford or Jeep runs him over, and refuses to get away from the road.
Volvo is finishing a book called “The Perfect Motorist” Therefore, now and then, he´s talking to a Dictaphone.
At last after “the scene” Ford accepts to run Volvo over. But he finds it very difficult. He keeps a log of the animals he runs over, and he´s not sure where he should list Ford. He think it would be improper if he grouped him with foxes and hedgehogs.
All three are momentarily inattentive while we hear a vehicle approaching. They are caught in the headlights of an oncoming car…
