PODCAST: EP. 1890: Filmmaker Vincent Truman (DUCK & COVER)

Matthew Toffolo chatted with Vincent about his short film “Duck and Cover,” which was adapted from a ten-minute play by Meg WILES. Vincent explained that he saw the play at the Chapel Theater, loved the performance by Gabby Basso, and convinced the writer to let him turn it into a film. He described the film as a satire with social commentary that balances comedy and horror, noting that the script went through several drafts to condense the play into a four-minute film. Vincent shared that the audio was recorded and mixed before filming, and that the first part of the film was shot in one long take. He also discussed the film’s success on the festival circuit, including nominations and a Best Comedy award. The conversation then shifted to broader topics, including Vincent’s background in Illinois and his move to Portland, his thoughts on authority figures and societal cycles, and his favorite movie, “The Great Race.”
