ELEGY à DOMINIQUE
(How could I forget)
by Brigitte Badier
How could I forget the glance of thine eyes
When with darted compliments they teased me
Dumb they left me, but now they tender lies
In my memory, setting life to thee.
Then, through thy thoughts, I knew when I was wrong
No shouts, no, with laughter, we would agree
Now how could I know to whom I do belong
When so far thou left that I won’t ever see.
How should I behave far from thy sight
It blazed in me strength to love, to give
O let thy voice sparkle in me I’ll fight
Against all cinders, thou shall ever live:
Smiles of the day and weeping of the night
Shan’t breathe away thy ever burning light.
