Get to know writer Mark Perlick:
1. What is your screenplay about?
This screenplay is about a woman who seeks healing by searching for the lost records of Atlantis, believing that these records contain the spiritual secrets that can transform and rehabilitate us all.
2. Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?
This screenplay should be made into a movie because it communicates through humor the spiritual possibilities within all of us. It lets us laugh at the absurdities of life, but shows us that there’s always a great mystery unfolding in each of us.
3. How would you describe this story in two words?
Yearning Unity
4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?
The movie I’ve watched most in my life is Dr. Strangelove.
5. How long have you been working on this screenplay?
I’ve worked on this screenplay approximately one year. The original version is nothing like this latest version. It was originally a parody of Little Red Riding Hood and evolved to what it is now.
6. How many stories have you written?
I’ve written approximately twenty screenplays and a couple hundred very short plays for the stage. Several of my short plays were performed on stage before an audience, which is the greatest feedback anyone can get.
7. What motivated you to write this screenplay?
The thing that motivated me to write this screenplay is the desire to write a great satire. It seems I always fall short, but keep on trying.
8. What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?
My screenplay always sounds great to me until I or someone else reads it some time later. I went through many rewrites to get it where it is now and anticipate still more rewrites.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
I’ve always been interested in meditation and spirituality.
10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Festival? What were your feelings on the initial feedback you received?
Originally I entered WILDsound because of its high rating in MovieBytes. The feedback I’ve received was immensely helpful. WILDsound not only pointed out the flaws, but told me what worked in my screenplay. The quality of the feedback was impressive compared to feedback I’ve received in some other contests.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Writing a screenplay is the most difficult type of writing. It takes patience and many rewrites. If you have a vision stick with it and don’t let others try to rewrite or water down your original idea.
