THE DOUBLE WINDOW
by Christina Linhardt

It was on a stairwell that I took her
Above The Double Window.

The light kept switching on and off
Revealing the aggressive grafitti.

We had crossed the line
from East to West
Slamming the Iron Curtain closed behind us.

Somehow it wasn’t as heavy as I’d thought it would be.

I wanted to wrap my naked body in it
Consume it,
Absorb it,
Become it.

Instead,
I used her.

On to Tacheles we marched
Black, red and gold
covered in bullet shells.
The rusted rocket stood tall in the swamp
We climbed it effortlessly
to find three passive bulls waiting at the top.

It is no longer necessary to destroy in Berlin.
