Get to know writer Darian Young:
1) What is your very short story about?
It’s about a woman who comes across a realization during the wee hours of the morning as she stirs her coffee.
2) What motivated you to write this story and submit it to the festival?
The story is motivated by people watching in coffee shops and personal beliefs. It was on a whim that I decided to submit it to the contest- a “just to see” kind of thing.
3) What movie have you seen the most in your life?
I’ve seen the film Interstellar (directed by Christopher Nolan) quite a few times. I think the count is six times now. It moves and inspires me every time.
4) How many scripts and stories have you written?
I have only written one script, but many stories. I write on a daily basis, maybe not anything worth sharing, but just anything I can think of.
5) What artists would you love to work with?
(Not sure what kind of artists?) It would be incredible to get the chance to work with Tyler Knott Gregson, who is an incredible poet that I’m constantly inspired by. John Green and Segovia Amil are two wonderful people that it would be great to work with as well.
6) What is your passion in life?
I want to become a special education teacher and spend my life inspiring and teaching children.
7) Any tips for other writers who want to write a 140 character short story?
Have a support system- someone to read it before you submit. I’m so thankful for mine. Also, just write about what you believe. I found it easier when I stopped trying to pretend. Sometimes it is about pretending, but sometimes it’s better when it’s real.
