Watch Video Pitch for the Novel LIZARDIAN:
Get to know writer Melissa R. Mendelson:
1. What is your story about?
Lizardian is a Horror/Sci-Fi Thriller that delves deep into the concept of being human and exploits the fear of evolution. This story is only available through Channillo.com and is updated weekly. All subscriptions are being donated to The Leary Firefighters Foundation.
2. Why should people know this story?
With the success of SyFy’s new show, Killjoys and TNT’s finished hit, Falling Skies and the promising upcoming Sci-Fi show, The Colony on USA Network, there is definitely a demand for Science-Fiction and variations of it. SyFy’s Twelve Monkeys and Continuum follow that story line of going back in time and changing the past, but FOX’s Sleepy Hollow takes a man from the past and puts him in a future consumed of dark magic and things that go bump in the night, which makes for very interesting television.
Also, other than the Sci-Fi in Killjoys, Falling Skies, and hopefully The Colony, there is a heart to their story, and that is Family. Lizardian follows the same formula.
3. How would you describe this story in just two words?
Fast-Paced and Unpredictable
4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?
I have seen many, many movies in my life, but one that stands out would be, Identity. I know some people hate this movie especially the ones that I coaxed into watching it, but Identity is brilliant for it thinks outside the box.
5. How long have you been working on this story?
Lizardian was first written as a short story back in 1996 when I was in high school. Over the years, it has had some revisions, but now I am doing a major overhaul of it and revamping it after some of my favorite Sci-Fi and Horror stories.
6. How many stories have you written?
I have written too many short stories, and some can be found on Gadfly Online. I have written five novellas, and Lizardian might be the six, if it doesn’t become a novel.
7. What motivated you to write this story?
When I was in high school, I read nothing but Stephen King books, and I watched so many, many Horror movies such as Dolls, NOES, Halloween, Friday The 13th, Hellraiser, Fright Night, Child’s Play, Puppet Master, etc.
I loved Horror, and instead of paying attention in class, I wrote stories, which I now call, “The Notebook Stories.” There is one story in my self-published collection, Glass Skies Over Home, and then there is Porcelain.
Lizardian is the third Notebook Story that I am revisiting and rewriting.
8. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Television and Movies.
9. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Even if you wrote it years ago and even if you think that it might be terrible, give it a chance, and see where the story takes you.
