Get to know writer Kate Duff:

1) What is your very short story about?

My story "Heart of Stone" is about love, how it exists in everything, even those things and people we might overlook and how the need to be loved, appreciated and even just acknowledged is a shared life experience.

2) What motivated you to write this story and submit it to the festival?

Serendipitous circumstance - I was drinking a cup of tea and the words came to me - I wrote them down and then a few minutes later whilst updating Twitter I saw the competition - Kuching! Entered and then ages later you emailed - lovely.

3) What movie have you seen the most in your life?

Dirty Dancing 3 times when I was about 17. Mostly I just watch a movie once.

4) How many scripts and stories have you written?

Heaps of short stories - one or two short plays. I am writing three books simultaneously and have an idea for a fourth - finishing is the difficult part.

5) What artists would you love to work with?

Alicia Silverstone, Angelina Jolie, Dame Judy Dench, Helen Mirren ...too many to mention

6) What is your passion in life?

My family. Writing, adventuring (motorbike touring) yoga running and swimming travelling, reading, spreading the word that plant based diets are awesome for people and the planet alike..I have a lot of interests that I pursue with passion.

7) Any tips for other writers who want to write a 140 character short
story?

Summarise summarise revise revise - let the idea simmer down until nothing is left but the heart of your idea - because that is the good stuff!
