Corr Syl the Terrible – Chapter 2 Reading by Garry Rogers (plus interview)

Watch the Chapter 2 Reading of CORR SYL THE TERRIBLE:

Reading perfomed by actor Geoff Mays

Get to know writer Garry Rogers:

1. What is your novel about?

In “Corr Syl the Terrible,” a science fiction novella for young readers, the young Tsaeb warrior Corr Syl, who is descended from rabbits, fights to rescue his beloved Rhya Bright from her kidnapper, the ruthless Human Dictator Ya Zhōu.

2. Why should this novel be read by all?

This book will interest anyone who reads for entertainment and who is facing, or who remembers facing the challenges of growing up and finding one’s purpose in life. Sometimes, the big decisions we make don’t work out. Things aren’t what we thought they were. The principal character in this book, Corr Syl, thought he knew what he wanted to be, and he trained thirteen years to become a warrior. Then in the first year on the job, he learned that killing, which is, of course, a normal part of a warrior’s job, was something he didn’t like, something he really didn’t like. So, what do you do? In this story, Corr finds a solution that turns his problem into a purpose, a grand challenge to which he can happily dedicate himself.

3. How long have you been writing stories?

I’ve been writing stories for four years.

4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?

The Fifth Element.

5. What motivated you to write this novel?

Concern for wildlife and nature conservation.

6. How many stories have you written?

Eighteen.

7. What obstacles did you face to get your novel completed?

I had lots to learn about creative writing and I had to find time amidst nonfiction research and writing projects.

8. Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

I read what I wrote the day before and begin composing as ideas come.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

I write about wildlife and nature conservation and maintain a blog and several Internet newsletters concerned with animals and earth ecosystems.

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Festival?

The connection with screenwriting and verbal presentation interested me.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Composition is difficult and moves at varying speeds. Keep going, and when you think you have something finished, find good editors and reviewers to tell you what to fix.
