BURNING TEARS

by Lesang Sedibe

Have you ever felt so cold inside
What about the the burn that rushes within every part of the body
Are you feeling colds and burns mingling without mercy of how it hurts
Burning tears running a mile dragging the skin line of your face
It can’t be stopped until that memory is gone…forever gone
Everything break lose
The heart faints because it can’t handle no more
The eyes can’t hold on…tears needs a way out
Everything burn like a horrible dream

Have you ever felt the burn that won’t stop ’til the memory is gone?
It makes my eyes breakdown with burning tears
Tears that takes away the surviving heart I had
Do you understand what I’m going through…
Have you ever felt what I’m going through…
Did you survive what I’m going through…
Cause I don’t understand but I’m feeling and surviving

Swear to me
by Will Humphrey

If I vanished in front of your eyes

Right here right now

Would you cry?

You don’t know me

You don’t know my story

You just know that im standing here in front of you

What if the person beside you left this World with your very next blink?

Could you handle it?

Have any of you ever been isolated

Just like me on this stage

Where all eyes are on you

Piercing through your soul making you feel so small

So insignificant

Let me take you back to 2009

When I completely lost my mind

The days which I was bullied to the point of loneliness

Left and right id look and slowly watch as my universe

Disappeared.

Friends dropping out of my life

As quick as the streams of tears down my cheeks

Bruises growing under my eyes and lies being spread

Oh these years…oh man I wish I was dead

Shrug it off gingy, you have no soul

How can you feel…

These words that cut deep

Pushed me so close to the edge

That I almost jumped

That I almost did exactly what they wanted

Houdini right? Greatest escape artist

Well I want to thank him

I want to thank the world for being malleable

And I want to thank the ones who grabbed my hand from the depths of hell

Without them I wouldn’t be here today

I wouldn’t be a writer

And I certainly wouldn’t be up on this stage

In this moment im facing my biggest fear

The fear of judgement

But I look out into this crowd and I notice something

All of your eyes are indeed on me

But its no 2009

There is no judgement

There is just all of you

Listening… Its simply amazing

The sun outside has begun to shine down on me

And finally my shadow doesn’t consume my life

Because of people like you I survived

Because of your support ive become stronger

Ive always been called an anomaly

The one who wasn’t meant to be

The one who should of off himself

So if I vanished now… would you care?

Would you screed a tear?

How about you all join me

Raise you right hand high in the air (and)

Solemnly swear that you will be there

That you will reach out and grab someones hand

Because someday you may need that hand too

Look around you

All these people would be there

Making sure you don’t vanish, but if you ever find yourself alone just remember

The sun can only shine if you open your eyes

So take someones hand and open them wide

The Curator, Poetry by John Taurek Baziw

Genre: cocky, angry, painful, dark, death, long, sad, rhyme

The Curator
John Taurek Baziw

A teenage kid has a threesome
With two hot blonde teachers
There are two people
With the Ebola virus
Out in Texas
There is an underground force
In the Middle East
Taking over Iraq and Syria
Through sheer brutality
Congress voted on Net neutrality
Whatever that means
She’s shooting jelly beans
Out of her pussy
Into this dude’s mouth
As I watch from the couch
Disgusted, yet somewhat titillated
Dreams get capitulated
Because dreams are just that
How about being a man of action?
Ha ha HA!
Laugh while you can
You look like Toucan Sam
I look like a burgeoning alcoholic
Like the bourgeoisie
On a Tuesday afternoon
Sipping vodka gimlets
Laughing
And smoking cigarettes
On the terrace
It’s everything that scares us
Place the tray upon the table
Pharmaceutical grade
It’s not that bad for you
Ask the Mad Hatter
Place the acid on the tongue
And try to remember the experience after
And you do
But it doesn’t
Have the meaning it did
When you were tripping
What you want is respect
Even when they can’t stand you
I mean, what is a slut?
A chick who sleeps with a lot of dudes, freely
But see, that’s just too easy
They gotta make everything hard
Hustle, hustle, hustle
Grind, grind, grind
Fuck that
Fuck you

I’m living in a trailer park in Malibu
With exorbitant rent
Inside, a bottle of Johnny Walker Red
Sipping Pabst Blue Ribbon
On my patio
Wasn’t the correct patois
This bitch is asking too much
Bikini top in cutoff jeans
Barely out of her teens
What was I supposed to do?
She comes out with half a joint
Between her lips
And asks for a light
Blonde hair and blue eyes
Seriously, what was I supposed to do?
She takes the chair opposite mine
I light her up
And go inside for the Red
And come back out with two glasses
What the hell are you laughing at?
The pot belly?
The receding hairline?
Or the arrogance that you can remain relevant?
She’s watching the waves crash onto the beach
I have my head back towards the sun
In the blackest shades possible

There’s nothing worse than listening
To a chick on her period complain, endlessly

There is no space in this place for polite society
People crying themselves to sleep
It wasn’t me
It didn’t happen suddenly
But slowly over time
Lazing away the hours of your days
Drunk at 3am
Still believing you had things to say
Fucking and kicking ass
Doesn’t make you interesting
In fact, it makes you boring as fuck
Spare me your reality TV shows
You all disappoint me
The worst crime
The point is to express yourself
But all your expressions are muted
Me included
But do I want all that attention?
Or should I just know, alone?
What you do is put everything out there
And see what happens

She gets up from her seat
With her glass in hand
And turns on the TV
Some reality show she likes
The ultimate banality
I join her
She sits on my lap and calls me daddy
I like that
I cup my hand to her ass
And we remain like that
Until I finally get up
Grab the remote
And change the channel
“Heeeeyyyy…”

MY ANGEL CHILD, Poetry by Cleo Patra

Genre: Sad, Rhyme

MY ANGEL CHILD
by Cleo Patra

Touching my stomach with trembling butterfly fingers
Knowing I’d never feel you growing in me
Earthquake tremors ripped my tortured heart to pieces
My eyes swam in my blue-stormy tears

I’d never feel you playing in my soul
You’d never talk to me in my thoughts
I’d never hear you knocking in my womb
Your first blossom breath would never be heard by my ears

My arms-blanket would be forever empty
Your first birthday would stay invisible in my birthday calendar
You’d never call me Momma
Never would I help you find your first step or tell everyone,
You broke my favourite porcelain plate

Never would I dress you in flowers
What would your first word be
Miss your first school day
The roller-coaster teenage years
First love scars and the why-tears

Midnight sneak backs when you think I won’t wait for you
Stone words between you and I when you find your own wisdom

Your pathway; a doctor, lawyer or just a fantasy dreamer
Your rainbow golden day and my tears hidden behind,
A make-up smile

Why did I have a hysterectomy in my spring years
Now I’d be forever crucified in my longing pain
For my angel child

You’ll be sealed forever in my burning, longing heart

UNTITLED POEM, Poetry by Nina Katungi

Genre: life, love, sad, and dark.

UNTITLED POEM
by Nina Katungi

I write my feelings down
On this piece of paper
What’s in my head
Fills this blank page
For what?
For my sanity?
Empty the mind to make space for new words, feelings, ideas
Out with the old and in with the new
Same old
Old new
Exhausted
Where’s the plug once the mind is drained?
Time
Space
Empty
Before it fills up all over again
I write my feelings down
On this piece of paper
What’s in my head
Fills this blank page
For what?
For my sanity?
Repeat

LoveLivesForever
by Gloria Oyewusi

I forget what life is without You
As I wake up each day
With You by my side

You hold me tight
With strong arms
That shield us both
From forces unseen

Each night, You whisper
Words of love
That soothe my heart
From every pangs of pain

For the first time,
I know what love is
I know what love does
I know who love is
You are love

So,
I run from a day
Without You, my love
To be with You
Forever

You said, I said…, Poetry by Alejandra Erebia

Genre: Sad, depressing, heartbroken, lonely

You said, I said…
by Alejandra Erebia

You said “Do what you want.”

I said “It will only hurt others.”

You said “Do it anyway.”

I said “I can’t.”

You said “Why?”

I said “I care too much, I care about her and how she would feel if I did what I wanted. I don’t know her but I know you two have a connection that you and I do not. I know you have feelings for her too. I won’t do what I want because I want you to do what you want and you want to be with her.”

You said “Oh.”

I said “I wish I didn’t care about others feelings as much as I do.”

You said “That’s a trait I love about you, you care about everyone even if they have hurt you. You care about your parents even if they treat you badly, you care about me even though I keep leaving you alone, you care about Grace even if you know she and I have a connection. You care about everyone. I love you, and when I say that I mean it but not in that way. You caring so much may seem like a flaw but I see it as a perfect imperfection.”

I said “Sometimes I want to die.”

You said “If you go who will care about everyone?”

I said “I guess I have to stay a little longer, don’t I?”

You said “Stay, I need you.”

I said “Only for you.”

You said “Stay because you want to.”

I said “I’ll stay because I care.”
