Trees of Many Colors
by Karen Cerio

Trees of many colors,
as their life goes racing by,
bring awe at the beauty
reflected in the eye.

The buds of spring,
as they begin to unfold
are signs of life beginning
and the end of the cold
The leaves open wide,
new shoots begin to grow,
ice breaks and melts,
rivers freely flow.

Green forests of summer
are shining in the light,
teaming with animals
in the shade out of sight.
Some leaves begin to wilt
the heat draining them dry,
their life cannot be salvaged
no matter how they try.

The colors of autumn
spread across wooded land
frost curling the edges,
leaves crumble in your hand.
Trees with no leaves
reaching limbs to the sky
are offered up for perches
for birds migrating by.

White snows of winter,
layered amongst the trees,
with icicles hanging
are glistening in the breeze.
The trees bend and break
with the weight of the snow
signs of life, older and ending
displayed wherever you go

Trees of many colors,
as their life goes racing by,
bring awe at the beauty
reflected in the eye.
