Get to know writer C.L. Pike:
1. What is your screenplay about?
Dogface is the story of 3 werewolves cursed with the gift of alchemy, and the humans who enter their environment.
2. Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?
Cheap to produce and a cohesive story.
3. How would you describe this story in two words?
Scary werewolves.
4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?
The Seventh Seal.
5. How long have you been working on this screenplay?
About a year or so.
6. How many stories have you written?
In my entire life? I don’t know. Since I became interested in screenwriting a couple of years ago, I have written a spec for American Horror Story and 2 horror film scripts.
7. What motivated you to write this screenplay?
I was just disgusted by how stupid and ridiculous werewolves have become in television and film. They have no connection to their environment, no personal cosmology. I decided to reimagine this fascinating creature.
8. What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?
I think anyone who has a day job knows that time and energy are problematic.
9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?
Abstract expressionism. Ford F-250 trucks.
10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Festival? What were your feelings on the initial feedback you received?
I needed a venue for my writing since I’m fairly new to this. I thought the feedback was accurate. It was mostly positive, too, which was great.
11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?
Read lots of scripts, watch movies, and don’t be afraid to write a crummy first draft. Once you get the nuts and bolts down, you can always revise, and that’s where the artistry begins.
