Get to know writer Carolyn Reese:

1. What is your screenplay about?

What if there are space aliens who are as passionate about Cosplay as Earthlings and what if being pregnant with predatory offspring doesn’t keep these space alien Cosplayers from entering a Cosplay Contest on earth about the same time they are due to give birth.

2. Why should this screenplay be made into a movie?

This is really a short and might make a good thirty minute TV episode with at least one commercial or maybe like one of Stephen King’s earliest movies, Cat’s Eye, I could add 2 or 3 more scripts with aliens socializing with Earth folks for competition and excitement and indeed, make it feature length. They all could come to earth pregnant and near birth dates and we could see how that works out for us and them.

3. How would you describe this story in one sentence?

Earthlings don’t have the market cornered on Cosplay!

4. What movie have you seen the most in your life?

It is a toss up among…Jurassic Park, Blade Runner and Liza Minnelli in Cabaret.

Then I could add a lot of others like Jeepers Creepers both one and two. Still haven’t seen three.

Short answer, I really can’t say exactly but know I saw those three mentioned first when they first came out at the theaters and saw them several more times at the theater and now own them and watch them again several times a year. I am just so happy when Jurassic Park comes on one of the cable movie channels…like I have never seen it before. Jeepers Creepers also and the Escape from movies by John Carpenter/Kurt Russell. I even have two scripts with titles Escape From Florida and Escape From Plain Middle that I use without paying for the Snake character but they haven’t sold so no legal biggee yet.

5. How long have you been working on this screenplay?

Not very long. Like I said it is only 5 pages or so and came to me while I was converting a short story called “How I First Met Princess” to script format. I started it as a fictional diary that some Drag Queen was keeping of communications from other Drag Queens. It was one of many entries from friends of one diary author Drag Queen. It was called The DQ Chronicles and I would have to look for a long while through a lot of computer files to even find that original light bulb going on.
Short answer…5 months ago and then for about a month or six weeks and that includes several rewrites and correction of typos and so on..

6. How many stories have you written?

Hundreds…really! I am now trying to convert them to screenplay or TV script format form.

7. What motivated you to write this screenplay?

I was already writing entries for DQ Chronicles and also think I was motivated by a new game show similar to Faceoff called Skin Wars…Now there is a concept…Cosplay using naked people as the canvas…you have to judge if those naked bodies are utilized the most nonperceptively…which artist used bodies to his/her best advantage and made you forget you were looking at bodies painted and now planted together to make this art work canvas work instead of people which it really is. Cosplay within Cosplay.

8. What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?

I wish I had some tragic story to tell of braving the miasma to write this but it just came out like zipadeedooda. Like reading all the thread, all the comments/replies under a link someone posted on Facebook.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Being invisible but still influential and earning a living doing something I love. Dream on oldster huh? Dream on. Dreams are still free.

10. What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Festival? What were your feelings on the initial feedback you received?

I was just so thrilled with your feedback…it made me feel like maybe something I wrote was worthwhile and that someone got a little chuckle or made a little gasp at some point while reading it or gave a big sigh at the end. That’s what writer’s, artists, performers all want, that applause at the end.

We at least like to think that someone was reading or watching or enjoying or being changed by something we created.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Not at this point but after I have won my fourth Oscar in a row for best original screenplay and am not still living just off the curb, …well don’t start me talking or I’ll tell you everything I know.
