Kimberly Davis, April 2017 Novel Winner

Performed by Amaka Umeh

What is your novel about?

Killing Eve is a drama about a young girl’s dysfunctional beginnings that leads her into the foster system and how circumstances leads her into a life and degradation and murder.

What genres would you say this novel is in?

The genre would be Drama.

How would you describe this story in two words?

Heartbreaking yet empowering.

What movie have you seen the most in your life?

The Matrix(will always love this movie, everytime I see it I get another perspective about it.)

What is your favorite song? (Or, what song have you listened to the most times in your life?)

I have many different songs that I love, depending on my mood I may be in the mood to hear Prince’s “Starfish and coffee”, or I may be in the mood for Lalah Hathaway’s “I’m coming back”, or Erykah Badu’s “Green Eyes”. ITs all about what day it is and which Kim we are dealing with.

Do you have an all-time favorite novel?

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison

What motivated you to write this story?

HBO used to have a show that focused on prostitution throughout the U.S. and one episode focused on a woman who became a pimp. I wanted to develop that story. However, as I started to write my story it evolved into something else while still discussing the lives of women on the streets.

If you could have dinner with one person (dead or alive), who would that be?

My brother, he passed away at the age of 21 from a seizure, I just want to make sure he was ok and make sure he knows I love him.

Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

I am passionate about my family, providing a wonderful life for my daughter is my first priority.

What influenced you to enter your story to get performed?

I wanted to see my work go from the page to something visually stimulating. We are visual people, so instead of explaining what my book is about, you can see what the possibilities are for this story.

Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Stay focused, I have been distracted for many years, this story should have been completed years ago. For a time, I forgot this was a goal for me. Even now, I go through periods where I am blocked and I get overwhelmed with other responsibilities and my writing takes a back seat. However, we must come back to our love. I have so many stories that need to be told, but they will never see the light of day, UNLESS I WRITE!

Tito Capaldo, April 2017 Novel Winner

Performed by Amaka Umeh

What is your novel about?

The Rabbit Culture” tells the story of the adoption process of a 7-year-old Romanian boy after the fall of Communism. Written in a direct, vivid style, the novel explores a variety of subject matter , like : overpopulation , religions, politics , open adoptions etc..etc..

What genres would you say this novel is in?

Narrative nonfiction , religion , politic , nature

How would you describe this story in two words?

Natural Order of Things

What movie have you seen the most in your life?

Pretty Women

What is your favorite song? (Or, what song have you listened to the most times in your life?)

‘Blowin’ in the wind

Do you have an all-time favorite novel?

The Odyssey

What motivated you to write this story?

Share this true story with people. I want readers to take away from my writing , that we humans do we do part of the same Pack; that Christian, Muslim, Jew, Baptist, Buddhist, etc … are adjectives of the most important thing: “The Person”. That the only law that is given us to know is that of “Natural Order of Things”. That religion is a purely personal, and that it is good that God remain in the background and that no one has the presumption to elect himself His representative on earth .That for more than 2000 years we have been slaves of the worst kind: mental slaves of the so-called prophets or spiritual leaders. As we know, the Olympus collapsed …. it is very likely that in this century will inevitably fall even the Holy See, Mecca and the Wailing Wall.

If you could have dinner with one person (dead or alive), who would that be?

Socrates

Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Flight , I am a fire fighting Pilot ;
Scuba diving

What influenced you to enter your story to get performed?

In many cases, the adoption of a child inevitably has many problems due to the trauma of abandonment. I wanted to share my experience with both the couples who are planning to adopt a child and be with people, seeking the root causes, which often have to do with nature, religion, politics, etc. .. etc. ..
I was forced visit many of the darkest places of human nature, and I have learned to appreciate and enjoy many things that are often taken for granted, only because the benevolent fate bestowed them upon us.

Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Be yourself, think with your mind
