Interview with Glenn Magas, co-writer Batman/Superman Short Fan Script

Watch Fan Fiction reading: BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER, by Glenn Magas & Dale Fabrigar

    CAST LIST:

    NARRATOR – Val Cole
    Priest – Lucas James
    Bruce – John Goodrich
    Clark – Andrew Tite
    Woman – Melinda Michael

Matthew Toffolo interviews writer Glenn Magas:

Matthew: What is your short screenplay about?

Two really old ‘friends’ that, even 50 years later – still have each other’s back. Even in dire circumstances. They are always watching over each other.

Matthew: Why should this script be made into a movie?

Glenn: It’s a new take at future Batman and future Superman – introducing a new character. I think it’s refreshing, exiting, and new with strong characters with a history.

Matthew: How long have you been writing stories?

Glenn: All my life. Since a little kid… reading books, writing comics…

Matthew: What movie have you seen the most in your life?

Glenn: Wow – I don’t know! I sleep dreaming about my own movies – literally. So every night I an play some of my ideas from start to finish before I even write them. But my favorite movies off the top of my head are American Beauty, Boogie Nights, As Good as It Gets, Tootsie, Manhattan, Good Fellas… I’ve seen these over and over but there’s more. Oh – Usual Suspects, Midnight Cowboy, Toy Story, E.T. . . .

Matthew: What artists would you love to work with?

Glenn: David Benioff, Tarantino, Mel Brooks, Garry Marshall, Mark Andrus, John Lasseter, Ed Catumull, Kevin Smith… too many to name.

Matthew: How many stories/screenplays have you written?

Glenn: About 5 feature scripts. Several short films and short stories.

Matthew: Ideally, where would you like to be in 5 years?

Glenn: Writing and Producing film for a major studio or running an indie company.

Matthew: Describe your process; do you have a set routine, method for writing?

Glenn: Music inspires me. I listen to music when I really want to get into the scene and characters.

Matthew: Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Glenn: Fitness, health, family, snowboarding… Trying to do the Rubiks cube in 30 seconds… stuff like that.

Matthew: What influenced you to enter the WILDsound Festival?

Glenn: It was a new thing I heard about and thought it was a great idea – and really wanted to hear some of my work being read.

Matthew: Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

Glenn: Don’t stop. Follow your passion. You hear it all the time. I had to take a 7 year layoff from writing… in 2014 I decided to work myself in and set some goals. In that time frame I completed a new feature, rewrote an old script, submitted it and it went to Semi-Finalist of a screenwriting competition – and his year Wildsound accepted this short to be read. Its a slow process and a lot of times frustrating – but keep on doing what you love.
