1. What is your screenplay about?

Beth is approached for her expertise in horse surgery to save a dying alien species from extinction and manages to convince Rick to tag along for a crazy adventure. Meanwhile at home, Morty seeks help from a notable icon to help with history homework to discover he isn’t exactly who he thought he was.

2. How does this episode fit into the context of the series?

I feel Rick and Morty’s success stems from many of their storylines discussing pop culture and frequently explored sitcom subjects to approach them in a way unexpected to the audience. Given that signature style of story telling, I feel my spec. is in line with your prototypical episode by both satirizing the film “The Hangover” and approaching the religious figure of Jesus in an unexpected way.

3. How would you describe this script in two words?

Unconventionally controversial.

4. What TV show do you watch over and over again?

I have two televisions series I enjoy to re-watch. I love re-watching both Rick and Morty and Curb Your Enthusiasm. I feel like the writing in both those series have phenomenal, atypical, comedy writing that doesn’t compare to much of what is currently out there. The way they approach their storytelling is so unique, I always re-watch those shows to get a different take on watching the same episode again.

5. How long have you been working on this screenplay?

I would say this screenplay took me roughly two and half months to produce the first draft. Then I spent a few more months accumulating notes and improving the quality of the story. In total, I probably spent five months working on this screenplay.

6. How many stories have you written?

Thus far, I’ve written seven stories.

7. What motivated you to write this screenplay?

I’m very interested in pursing a career as a screenwriter as my passion is the art of storytelling. In order to show case my work, I thought it would be best to write sample material for one of my favorite shows, thus writing a spec. episode of Rick and Morty.

8. What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?

For those who have watched Rick and Morty before, many will notice the voices of the characters are quite peculiar. That said, it was quite an obstacle trying to accurately replicate both Rick and Morty’s voices. Rick often interrupts people while talking, he burps in the middle of talking, he’ll interrupt himself to drink from his flask. On the other hand, Morty often stutters when talking, is uncertain of himself, and finds himself repeating Rick’s name several times over while chatting with Rick. It took along time of watching the existing episode of Rick and Morty to assure I got those nuanced details just right.

9. Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Apart from writing, I’m very passionate about music. I’ve spent 10 years playing piano and 15 years playing trombone. I believe I have a rather wide musical palette enjoying musical genres ranging from Country to Rock to Classical.

10. What influenced you to enter the festival? What were your feelings on the initial feedback you received?

As a relatively new writer, I’m still trying to discover my voice, in addition to identifying flaws in my writing. As a result, I identified several writing festivals that were know for providing stellar feedback on scripts and thus decided to submit my script to Wildsound. Upon submitting an early draft of my script to wild sound, their feedback helped me identify problems in my script which guided me in future re-writes to better improve the quality of my script.

11. Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

If there is anything I’ve learned from my several years writing, the art of writing is something that improves with time, practice, and feedback. Write a script, make it as good as you can, and don’t be intimidated to distribute it/ask for feedback. If you fear your work being stolen, don’t be. Writers are often egotistic and would never have the ability to pass off someone elses work as their own. Other writer’s will help identify the problems you aren’t seeing in your works and will often help you improve as a writer. Although, take advice with a grain of salt. All writer’s have different tastes and opinions, so don’t feel you need to take every note you are given. Get as many notes as you can, as the comments consistent across several writer’s will typically guide yo to where your work needs improvement

Since we started performing TV PILOT screenplays at the festival in 2008, the industry of developing pilots has changed dramatically. There are now 100s of more television shows being created a year because of the large growth of web platforms like Netflix. To add to that, there are now more television stations desperate for solid content looking for that next great television show.

We performed 18 original television pilots in 2016 and are eyeing to perform at least twice as many in 2017.

Watch the 2016 TV SPEC Winners from the WILDsound Screenplay Festival (13)

13 TV Spec Screenplays were performed at the festival in 2016. These are always the most enjoyable scripts to perform for the actors because they get to dive into the roles of their favorite television characters.

This portion of the festival has been going on since 2009 and since then the television industry has changed dramatically. Specs from web platforms like Netflix and Amazon TV is now what agents and producers are looking to read to showcase a writer’s talent.

An archeologist finds out that she was born as a result of her mother’s encounter with a demon, which seeks to mate with her directly so that she bears a child from the demon as well.

What is your TV Pilot screenplay about?

A woman’s surprising revelation about her past and her fight to save herself and humanity from a satanic Second Coming.

Why should this screenplay be made into a TV show?

The screenplay has long story lines and it can take you into Madeleine’s life after the revelation, into webs of future occurrences when Madeleine bears her own child, the rise of another Second Coming and the battles for the soul of earth with biblical implications.

How would you describe this script in two words?

Horror-Romance

What TV show do you keep watching over and over again?

Star Trek originals from 1960’s.

How long have you been working on this screenplay?

I worked on the screenplay for approximately one year.

How many stories have you written?

I have written four features and four shorts. The first script was titled The Outcasts which received a quarter-finalist status with the We Screenplay Intl’ Competition. The second script was titled Dangerous Triangle, which was a finalist in the Massiff (Massachusetts Int’ Film Festival), a 4th place finish in the Indie Gathering Festival, and a finalist in the Neo Noir Film Festival. In the shorts category, a screenplay titled The Secret was a finalist in the 2016 Artists Alliance Short Screenplay Comp., and a screenplay titled Love in a Dungeon, received a finalist award in the Courier Award 2015.

What motivated you to write this screenplay?

As a teenager, I was always fascinated with movies like the Wolfman with Lon Chaney, vampire movies with Bela Lugosi, Frankenstein movies, Star Trek and all other forms of thriller and sci-fi adventures.

What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?

I have come to face obstacles with all my scripts I have written. The obstacles are the re-writes which constantly change the direction of the scripts.

Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

My other passions are few. Watching the politics on television has hijacked my life and has consumed my everyday life, as I am very passionate about the direction that this country will travel.

What influenced you to enter the festival? What were your feelings on the initial feedback you received?

The initial feedback opened my eyes as to how my writing skills needed major improvement. Being long-winded, the reviewer showed me the proper way to shorten my action descriptions into a more compact way, which I am able to use in my future writings.

The reason for entering the festival was to receive feedback to improve my writing skills.

Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

My advice: Never stop re-writing. It is a love of mine, not a chore.

Lira, an immortal witch from a quasi-Hellenic dimension, travels to 21st century South Dakota in search of a dark magical object, which could destroy the universe. In her search, she meets Michelle, a teenage witch-hopeful, whose mother mysteriously died when she was a child. Finally having proof of magic’s existence, Michelle helps Lira evade any unwanted attention, hoping to find answers once and for all.

What is your TV Pilot screenplay about?

It’s about friendship, loyalty, family, greed, and the quest for truth and goodness. Set against the backdrop of ancient gods and their eternal cosmic battle, worlds will collide, gods will clash, heroes will fall, and all before lunch period. When we first meet our leading ladies, Lira is a powerful being from a realm of magic, mystery, and adventure, and Michelle is a seemingly ordinary girl stuck in an ordinary world, whose biggest concern is getting through high school in one piece. A chance encounter will change their lives forever and lead them down a path that neither one could have predicted.

Why should this screenplay be made into a TV show?

It should be made into a TV show, because it’s fun, adventurous, and would be very visually and emotionally appealing to the YA audience it’s geared for. This demographic is constantly looking for something new and fresh, and this show has a combination of unique elements similar to other successful shows like Roswell and Once Upon a Time, but on a slightly darker, more mature level, which I feel would apply to the current zeitgeist given the popularity of TV content like The Vampire Diaries, The 100, and Pretty Little Liars.

How would you describe this script in two words?

Emotional and thrilling

What TV show do you keep watching over and over again?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

How long have you been working on this screenplay?

Two years.

How many stories have you written?

Too many to count. I’ve been writing stories since I learned how to put pen to paper.

What motivated you to write this screenplay?

I had a dream about my main characters and that’s where the story evolved from. I felt that the visuals my unconscious brain had imagined needed to be realized into words.

What obstacles did you face to finish this screenplay?

It was difficult to find people who were willing to read my script, who knew enough about script writing and storytelling to give me good feedback.

Apart from writing, what else are you passionate about?

Dancing and musical theatre. My secret wish is to write a musical one day.

What influenced you to enter the festival? What were your feelings on the initial feedback you received?

I felt this was a pretty great story and a solid pilot, and I wanted to see if anyone else agreed. I also liked the idea of getting feedback regardless of whether your script is picked. I had nothing to lose by entering.

The Initial feedback was great. I think it helped tighten my script in some places and made me think of different ways to bring out exposition.

Any advice or tips you’d like to pass on to other writers?

If it’s your dream, you have to go for it.
